National lab physicists will develop Armenian geophysical parameters monitoring network

Armenian government allocates a grant to A.Alikhanian National Laboratory (AANL) for creating a network for measuring most important geophysical parameters. The project is allocated to the Cosmic Ray Division (CRD) of AANL and is funded with support of the Michigan chapter of the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America organization.

Growing influence of various dynamic processes in the atmosphere and the Earth's magnetosphere to human civilization become more and more noteworthy. On the one hand, this is due to a steady increase of the frequency and severity of climate anomalies and extreme weather events.

The comprehensive monitoring and prediction of potentially dangerous processes in the magnetosphere and atmosphere of the Earth is important for evaluating risk in various areas of the economy, in particular, to ensure the safety of existing and emerging complicated technological facilities (including nuclear), the destruction of which will have a catastrophic impact and lasting effect on the environment and living conditions.
The monitoring and prediction of potentially hazardous processes in the atmosphere of Earth are essential for the military defense systems, including the management and control, the functioning of the means of communication and other electronic equipment, power systems, the planning and implementation of military intelligence and tactical operations.

Priorities for research of the Armenia in the field of climate and atmospheric processes physics include:
• Building a network of high-tech sensors and monitoring systems for the main geophysical parameters.
• Ensuring continuous operation of the network and sending data in real time on database servers.
• Create systems for the data transfer storage, multidimensional visualization and statistical analysis.

Geophysical investigations at the world level will increase the scientific and technological potential of Armenia, will support the priority of Armenian scientists and will lay the grounds for awareness and readiness to respond unprecedented challenges of 21 century.
