The visit of delegations of CANDLE SRI and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia, to Aragats Research Station of Yerevan Physics Institute
On September 15th, Bagrat Grigoryan, the director of CANDLE, along with Oleg Belov and Ksenya Belokopitova, senior scientists of the applied research department of NICA accelerator, JINR, Dubna, visited the Aragats Research Center. Professor Chilingarian, the head of the Cosmic Ray Division, introduced them to the ongoing research at the station. He demonstrated and explained the experimental facilities, and answered numerous questions.
The group discussed possible mutual cooperation during the visit. The main areas of interest are the measurement of natural gamma ray radiation and the Thunderstorm ground enhancements (TGE), a new physical phenomenon discovered by CRD scientists. TGE refers to a huge flux of gamma rays and electrons generated by the electron accelerators operated in thunderous atmospheres.
